Blanket Challenges

All new, handmade blankets are accepted by Project Linus at all times.  However, from time to time the Collin/Dallas/Denton/Grayson/Rockwall County Texas chapter runs special challenges to encourage a large volume of certain themed or sized blankets.  These blankets are then used to fill a special need within one or more of our beneficiary organizations.  A blanketeer submitting a challenge blanket before the challenge deadline is awarded with a special gift.

Participation is completely optional and this is a ‘just for fun’ project. You need not take up these challenges!

Challenge Name We are Project Linus
Registration Date TBA
Due Date Tuesday, December 10, 2013
Minimum Blanket Size Any size.
Note: Please keep in mind the age bracket associated with your pattern/fabric. When in doubt, bigger is better.
Complete Instructions To kick off 2012, the chapter coordinator issued a special “PL” challenge.  The reward was a special letter charm.  The challenge was wildly popular and it was decided that it should be continued to include all of the letters to spell out “Project Linus”.  So, it’s only fitting that we have a special two year long challenge to show off our creativity and have fun.  This challenge is to:

  • Email our assistant project coordinator (Sue Francis) to sign up for the challenge by the registration date.
  • For each of the remaining letters, select a theme of the blanketeer’s choice.  Email our assistant project coordinator (Sue Francis) with the letter that you are working on, the matching theme, any just completed blanket themes, and the associated reward status.  (IE: in progess = “R”, theme = “Robots”, just completed = “O”, theme = “orange”, reward status = “O” on order.)
  • Only 1 blanket can be turned in every two months.  (In other words, each odd numbered month in the two year long challenge allows for one additional blanket submission.)
  • Complete at least one blanket for each letter in “Project Linus”.  (Note: At least half must be boy blankets.)
  • Take pictures of all completed items.
  • Upon completion of each themed blanket, show the blanket and explain the theme to Theresa for reward.  Once reward is received update our assistant coordinator with a status report.

The deadline to receive a guaranteed charm is December 2013. Blankets can be turned in before that date. After the deadline charms will be awarded as long as supplies last. (Charms will not be re-ordered for a challenge after that challenge deadline passes.)

Important Note: You must sign up for this challenge by emailing Sue Francis by the registration deadline and providing a status on the “P” (Pocket) and “L” (What Linus means to me) challenge by the registration deadline.

Planned Reward One sterling silver theme charm per letter in “Project Linus” per blanketeer as an incentive to encourage you to participate. (Only one charm per letter per challenge/blanketeer will be awarded.)
Special Notes Important Note:You must sign up for this challenge by emailing the assistant chapter coordinator by the registration deadline.Note: Each themed letter can be completed in whatever order the blanketeer desires.

Note: Some charm letters may be on order at the time of a themed blanket submission.  If this affects your reward(s), please be patient while the necessary charms are restocked.

Bracelets can be ordered for the small fee of $5.00 for 7″ or $6.00 for 8″. If you will want a bracelet, please contact the chapter Coordinator upon completion of the challenge for ordering details.
